For some, a job that entails travelling to foreign countries isn’t exactly work but more of an adventure. Well, that could be partly true. However, business is still business regardless of what side of the globe you are on and thus, good manners when it comes to dealing is still highly necessary. Of course, with the different cultures, good manners are shown through different methods and languages. This article would give you a few tips on handling that international job.

Business TravelAnticipate the Time Change

Most personnel hop into a plane at dawn, travel for a few hours and lands – shocked – at dusk. Don’t do this. Know the time difference. Some business travelers are known to keep to sets of watches/clock to determine time. A watch for the current time of the foreign country and perhaps the clock of the cell phone to keep up with your own.

Dealing with Jet Lag

In relation to the first tip, jet lag is probably the most common enemy of a business traveler. The best way to handle this is to get plenty of sleep prior to the flight. Others find it better to arrive a day earlier than the scheduled meeting to allow the body time to adjust with the abrupt change.

Learn a Few Things

Thanks to the internet, you can now access thousands of information with just a flick of a finger. Use this. Learning how to say “Good Morning” or “Good Evening” in the language of the foreign country you’re visiting is a big bonus! They appreciate it and that little bit of internet research could help you land a deal. Just be careful though. Pack a headphone and listen to how the foreign phrase is spoken correctly. You don’t have to perfect the accent, just the pronunciation.
